PMDC Directs Medical, Dental Colleges Not to Fill Vacant Seats Independently
The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has issued a strict directive to all medical and dental colleges, instructing them not to fill their vacant seats independently. The notice, addressed to college principals by PMDC Registrar Dr. Shaista, emphasizes that only the admitting universities have the authority to conduct admissions in their respective provinces or regions.

The directive references Section 17(5) of the PMDC Act, 2022, mandating that universities oversee the admission process for all affiliated colleges under their jurisdiction, ensuring compliance with established criteria.
Dr. Shaista highlighted that any admissions granted under PMDC’s amnesty would be recognized only if conducted through the authorized admitting university.
In recent developments, PMDC has also adjusted the merit criteria for vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges. The passing marks for the Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) were lowered to 50% for MBBS and 45% for BDS candidates.
In Sindh, Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro has been designated as the sole institution authorized to manage admissions. Applicants are required to pay an admission fee of Rs 4,500, along with an additional Rs 7,000 to the testing agency for the entrance exam.
