The annual MDCAT across Pakistan has been postponed due to the ongoing flood situation in many regions. Authorities confirmed the exam, originally scheduled for October 5, will now be held on October 26.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) issued the notification after consulting with universities nationwide. Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal directed the change, stressing that it was necessary to ease difficulties for students living in flood-affected areas.
“The exam date was changed purely in the interest of students impacted by the floods,” the minister said. He assured candidates that the government is monitoring the situation closely and will continue prioritizing their well-being.
Officials noted that severe flooding had disrupted both preparation and travel for thousands of students. The decision to move the MDCAT was made to provide additional time and relief.
According to PMDC, different universities will conduct the exam across provinces. In Punjab, the University of Health Sciences, Lahore, will supervise the process. In Sindh, IBA University, Sukkur, has been tasked with conducting the test. Khyber Medical University will oversee the exam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the University of Balochistan will manage it in Quetta.
Candidates from Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will sit for the test under Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad. This university will also conduct the MDCAT for students from Gilgit-Baltistan and those appearing from Riyadh.
The MDCAT is a crucial requirement for admission into medical and dental colleges in Pakistan. Every year, thousands of students compete in the test to secure a seat in top institutions.
By rescheduling the exam, authorities aim to ensure fairness and provide students with equal opportunity despite the challenges caused by the floods.
