Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has demanded an independent audit of the Rs. 1.26 billion collected for MDCAT 2026. The party has raised concerns about transparency, examination arrangements, and possible irregularities in the medical and dental college admission test.
JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar has written to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj. He called for a detailed investigation into the examination held on September 20, 2026.
The letter urged the PMDC to review the entire examination process. This includes question paper preparation, distribution, answer keys, and allegations of possible result tampering. The party also demanded a complete account of how the examination fees were spent.
JI Questions Use of MDCAT 2026 Examination Fees
According to the letter, 138,158 candidates registered for MDCAT 2026 across Pakistan. These included 33,336 candidates from Sindh and 9,505 from Karachi.
The registration fee was Rs. 9,000 per candidate. Applicants who registered late were charged Rs. 13,000. Zafar questioned how the collected amount was utilized and called for the publication of a detailed expense report.
He also demanded that candidates receive copies of their question papers. This would allow students to assess their performance after the examination. Furthermore, he proposed retesting the top 100 candidates through an independent third party.
JI Raises Concerns Over Karachi Examination Centers
Zafar also criticized the arrangements made for candidates in Karachi. He said only two examination centers were established for 9,505 candidates. Both centers were located on University Road.
The location created difficulties for students and their parents. Ongoing construction work on the BRT Red Line project contributed to traffic congestion in the area.
Zafar compared Karachi’s arrangements with those in other cities. Peshawar had 19 examination centers for 16,722 candidates. Lahore had six centers for 12,064 candidates.
He urged the PMDC to establish more examination centers in Karachi. He said the number and location of centers should reflect the candidate population and the city’s geographical spread.
Questions Raised Over Examination Management
The JI leader also questioned the decision to assign MDCAT arrangements in Sindh to IBA Sukkur. He referred to previous complaints about the institution’s role in examinations conducted under the Sindh government.
Another concern involved instructions issued just 10 days before the test. Candidates were reportedly instructed to return their question papers, unlike the practice followed previously.
Complaints were also reported about answer keys for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These concerns particularly involved Paper Codes A and D.
JI has called for the PMDC to investigate these issues and explain its examination procedures. The party’s demands include greater financial transparency, a review of examination arrangements, and an independent assessment of the reported concerns.
