Mbappe's PSG Farewell Marked by Defeat in Final Home Game

Kylian Mbappe marked his final home game for Paris Saint-Germain with a goal on Sunday, but the French champions suffered an unexpected 3-1 defeat against Toulouse as they lifted the Ligue 1 championship trophy.

In a social media video posted on Friday, Mbappe confirmed his departure from PSG at the end of the season, ending a seven-year tenure with the club. Real Madrid is widely speculated to be his next destination, following his private notification to PSG of his intention to leave back in February.

Wearing the captain’s armband, Mbappe scored early on against Toulouse, taking his season tally to 44 goals in all competitions. However, Thijs Dallinga equalized swiftly for Toulouse. Despite PSG making 10 changes from their Champions League semi-final squad, Yann Gboho’s second-half strike and Frank Magri’s late goal secured Toulouse’s victory, PSG’s second league defeat this season and their first in 27 games since September.

Mbappe’s goal brought his total tally for PSG to 256, a club record, since his arrival from Monaco in 2017. His 191 goals in Ligue 1 place him seventh on the all-time list, with coach Luis Enrique hailing him as “a club legend.”

While PSG’s celebrations were centered on their title triumph rather than a specific tribute to Mbappe, there were mixed reactions from fans during the game. Despite this, a large display featuring Mbappe was unveiled before kick-off.

Despite the Champions League disappointment, PSG still has the opportunity to secure a domestic treble, with the French Cup final against Lyon on May 25. Additionally, they have already won the Champions Trophy. Their league campaign concludes with matches against Nice and Metz.
