Maryam Nawaz Sets 30-Day Deadline to Resolve Lahore Traffic Issues

During a high-level meeting, officials presented plans for a modern traffic system, improved road management, and stronger safety measures.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that traffic reforms must be implemented across all cities, not just Lahore, and warned that anyone breaking the rules will face strict fines. She cautioned the traffic police that this is their final chance to deliver results, or a new department will be formed. While several issues have already been resolved, she said chaotic traffic remains a serious concern and reflects weak law enforcement.

Officials announced significant reforms in the decades-old traffic act. Vehicles repeatedly fined for violations will now be auctioned, and government vehicles will be heavily penalized. The government has also given 30 days to end one-way violations.

To curb underage driving, strong action will be taken, and vehicle owners could face up to 6 months in jail. Crackdowns will also target passengers travelling on bus roofs. It was further decided that Chingchi rickshaws will be banned on five major model roads in Lahore. Wedding halls must arrange proper parking facilities; those failing to do so will not be allowed to operate
