Maryam Nawaz Plans to Expand Basant to More Cities

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that the Basant festival will soon be introduced in other cities across the province after what she called a safe and successful celebration in Lahore.

In her statement, the chief minister expressed satisfaction over the Basant Gala, saying it was encouraging to see families and children enjoying the festival responsibly. She noted that public spaces, including safari and wildlife parks, were filled with vibrant colors and cultural activities, creating a festive yet disciplined atmosphere.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Punjab government is dedicated to providing secure and inclusive environments where people can celebrate traditional events while also protecting nature and wildlife. She appreciated the citizens of Lahore for strictly following the safety guidelines issued for the festival. According to her, the public honored the government’s trust by observing all the standard operating procedures.

She highlighted that residents complied with rules regarding kite sizes, paper quality, and the ban on dangerous strings. There were no reports of metallic or chemical-coated strings, which helped prevent accidents and safeguarded the city’s power infrastructure. Basant activities were mostly limited to rooftops, and preventive measures ensured the event remained peaceful and incident-free.

To strengthen safety arrangements, the government deployed 200 Clinics on Wheels and set up 21 field hospitals in different locations, including Liberty and the Walled City, to provide immediate medical assistance if needed.

Following Lahore’s positive experience, the chief minister confirmed that the “Safe Basant” model will now be extended to other cities. She urged the public to continue celebrating carefully and responsibly, especially as the final day of the festival approaches, reminding everyone not to compromise on safety.
