Maryam Nawaz has instructed authorities in Punjab to take strict action against transporters overcharging passengers during the upcoming Eid travel rush.
While chairing a meeting to review public transport arrangements, she emphasized that only officially notified fare rates must be applied across all districts. Overcharging or black marketing of tickets will not be tolerated.
Deputy commissioners have been directed to closely monitor transport operations during the busy holiday period. They must ensure approved fare lists are clearly displayed at bus terminals and stands to help passengers plan their travel.
In addition to enforcement, several measures have been approved to improve passenger comfort during the Eid season. Authorities will arrange iftar for fasting travelers, maintain cleanliness at bus terminals, and provide proper seating and fans in waiting areas.
The transport department and relevant authorities have also been instructed to conduct continuous field inspections. These inspections aim to ensure fair treatment of commuters and prevent any exploitation during the busy travel period.
Maryam Nawaz warned that strict legal action will be taken against transporters who violate approved fare limits. She highlighted that the government is committed to ensuring safe, affordable, and comfortable travel for passengers heading home for Eid.
These steps are part of broader efforts to manage transport services efficiently during the peak travel season. Authorities are expected to maintain vigilance throughout the holiday to provide relief and convenience to the public.
Passengers are advised to check fare rates in advance and report any overcharging. By following these measures, the authorities aim to make travel safer and fairer during one of the busiest times of the year.
