Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the largest tractor scheme in Pakistan’s history, providing 30,000 tractors to farmers. The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and support farmers financially across Punjab.
According to government details, the first phase of the Chief Minister’s Tractor Programme distributed 10,000 tractors with 50 to 75 horsepower to eligible farmers. The second phase is currently underway, offering 10,000 tractors of 75 to 85 horsepower through a balloting process.
The Punjab government has allocated a subsidy of Rs10 billion for high-power tractors to ensure affordability. The third phase of the scheme is set to begin in January, and applications will be invited for tractors with 50 to 55 horsepower.
Speaking about the program, Maryam Nawaz said, “The aim of providing tractors to Punjab’s farmers is economic self-reliance and higher agricultural output. Farmers becoming owners of their own tractors is a source of great satisfaction.” She highlighted that the government is supporting farmers at every stage, from sowing crops to selling their produce.
Officials stated that the tractor scheme is expected to modernize farming, improve efficiency, and empower rural communities. The initiative allows farmers to access high-quality machinery, reducing dependence on rented equipment and enhancing crop production.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening the agricultural sector. She noted that the program reflects Punjab’s focus on sustainable economic growth and rural development.
With the distribution of 30,000 tractors, this scheme sets a record for agricultural support programs in Pakistan. Experts say it could significantly boost crop yields and help farmers achieve economic stability.
The Chief Minister’s Tractor Programme also highlights the government’s long-term strategy to improve agriculture and support small and medium-scale farmers. By providing modern equipment directly to farmers, the initiative aims to transform Punjab’s farming landscape.
