Maryam Nawaz vows to defend Punjab’s reputation

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday demanded that critics of the province should publicly apologize for their remarks during recent crises.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of electric buses in Lahore, the chief minister expressed disappointment over what she described as insensitive comments from political spokespersons. She said some voices mocked Punjab at a time when the province was struggling with serious challenges.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that Punjab had worked hard to overcome hardships and deserved acknowledgment, not criticism. She stated that political figures who tried to undermine the province during those times must now come forward and apologize to the public.

During her address, the chief minister also highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to sustainable transport. She announced the addition of 40 new electric buses in Lahore, with 70 more buses expected soon. In total, 170 electric buses will be introduced across the Lahore division, aiming to reduce traffic pollution and provide citizens with affordable, eco-friendly public transport.

The project is seen as part of her wider agenda to modernize Punjab’s urban infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents. Maryam Nawaz reiterated that the government’s focus remains on delivering long-term solutions in health, education, and transport sectors.

Observers note that this is another bold step by the chief minister to strengthen Punjab’s image and counter political narratives. Her recent projects underline a broader strategy to combine governance reforms with climate-friendly policies.

Across Pakistan, health and social projects are also gaining momentum. For instance, Pakistan’s first free pulmonary rehab center was recently launched at Dow University, showing how provinces are investing in facilities that directly benefit citizens.

Analysts believe Maryam Nawaz’s latest remarks reflect her determination to protect Punjab’s reputation while advancing development projects that set new standards for urban governance.
