Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has stated that the recent monsoon rains caused minimal damage due to effective government preparations. Despite record rainfall, the province saw limited losses thanks to quick action by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and rescue teams.

Maryam Nawaz assured the public that no deaths in Punjab resulted from government negligence during the monsoon season. She praised the efforts of officials and emergency workers in managing the situation efficiently.

During a review meeting, Maryam urged authorities to remain vigilant for the next monsoon spell, which started recently. She emphasized the importance of quick rainwater drainage and increased field presence to handle any flooding or emergencies.

The Chief Minister highlighted successful relief efforts in areas like Jhelum and Chakwal, where roads were cleared swiftly after heavy rains. She also warned that residents of private housing societies should not suffer due to poor management by developers. Deputy Commissioners were instructed to enforce strict safety measures in these communities.

Maryam Nawaz called for thorough assessments of crop and infrastructure damage caused by the monsoon. She stressed the need for early evacuation of people living in high-risk areas to prevent loss of life. The government has enforced strict monitoring under Section 144 to maintain law and order.

She also directed mosques to announce safety warnings, especially advising parents not to allow children to swim in canals during the monsoon. Maryam noted that the situation at Nullah Lai was controlled this time, although brief evacuations were necessary.

An emotional moment came when a newborn was rescued and safely reunited with the parents during relief efforts. Maryam advised that areas needing boats for rescue should coordinate with PDMA to ensure timely assistance.

Overall, the Punjab government’s proactive approach helped manage the challenges posed by the monsoon season, minimizing damage and safeguarding residents.
