Pakistani footballer Mariam Mahmood has signed a one-year deal with Wrexham AFC Women. The Welsh club announced her arrival as part of their preparations for the upcoming season.
Mariam, 21, will play in the Adran Premier, the top tier of women’s football in Wales. Her signing is part of a busy transfer window for Wrexham, who also brought in Josie Smith and Hannah Snape.
The club had earlier signed Katie Barker and Jodie Bartle, showing a strong intent to build a competitive team.
Before joining Wrexham, Mariam played for West Bromwich Albion. She rose through their youth ranks and made 80 first-team appearances under head coach Jenny Sugarman.
Mariam has also made a name for herself on the international stage. She scored twice in Pakistan’s 2–1 win over Kyrgyzstan during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. Her performance caught attention across Asia and highlighted her potential.
Speaking about the move, Mariam said she was excited to join Wrexham. She praised the club’s fan base and said she looked forward to the challenge.
Wrexham AFC Women are part of the wider Wrexham A.F.C. setup, owned by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The men’s team has already gained global recognition, and the women’s team is now following suit.
Mariam’s transfer is another step forward for women’s football in Pakistan. More Pakistani players are securing professional contracts in Europe, helping grow the sport at home.
With her skill and experience, Mariam is expected to play a key role in Wrexham’s campaign. The new season begins in September, and the club is aiming for a strong start.
Wrexham fans will be eager to see how their new striker performs on Welsh soil.
