Police in Rawalpindi have exposed an illegal organ transplant ring operating within the Rawat police station limits,
Authorities discovered a hidden operation theater set up inside a bungalow being used for unlawful organ transplants. The raid took place during a routine patrol when officers heard screams coming from the area. With the support of female officers, police stormed the site and rescued a man named Hanan Khan, who had fresh surgical stitches.
Four suspects were arrested during the raid, while six others escaped. Police seized medical instruments and drugs used for organ removal.
Hanan Khan told police he had been tricked with a fake job offer, drugged, and later woke up to find one of his kidneys missing.
A case has been registered at Rawat police station, and an in-depth investigation is underway to arrest the remaining culprits and uncover the full extent of the operation. It’s worth noting that back in 2020, Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) dismantled a similar organ trafficking network in Lahore.
PHOTA’s Vigilance Cell raided an illegal kidney transplant facility based on information provided by victims. According to Adnan Ahmed Bhatti, the head of the Vigilance Cell, illegal kidney transplants are becoming increasingly common, with many involved in this unlawful trade.
Investigations also revealed that the gang was running secret operation theaters in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
