Man Fulfills 10-Year Dream of Buying a Ferrari, Only for It to Catch Fire Within an Hour

Japanese Music Producer’s Ferrari Dream Turns to Ashes After Just One Drive

A Japanese music producer’s decade-long dream of owning a Ferrari was tragically cut short when his newly purchased Ferrari 458 Spider caught fire just an hour after he took it for its first drive.

After spending 10 years saving for the car, Honkon, a 33-year-old producer for the popular Japanese idol group Chocorabi, finally fulfilled his dream, only for it to quickly turn into a nightmare.

A Dream Gone Wrong

On Wednesday, April 16, Honkon set out for a celebratory drive along the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo after taking delivery of the luxury sports car. However, his excitement was short-lived as the car suddenly began emitting white smoke from the engine.

At first, Honkon thought the smoke was coming from a nearby vehicle, but once that car sped off, it became clear that his Ferrari was the source of the smoke. Realizing the situation, he quickly pulled over, exited the vehicle, and called the fire department.

The Aftermath

Sharing a photo of the burning Ferrari on X (formerly Twitter), Honkon humorously lamented his misfortune:

“I think I’m the only person in Japan to have experienced such trouble. I spent 43 million yen ($306,000), and all I got was this photo.”

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police confirmed that there was no evidence of a collision. While investigators are looking into the incident, they suspect the fire may have originated from the engine compartment, though the exact cause remains under investigation. By the time the fire was contained, the Ferrari was nearly destroyed.

Despite the devastating loss, Honkon expressed his relief that he made it out safely:

“I thought it might explode. I’m just glad to be alive,” he shared with his followers.
