Sharjah Authorities Shut Down Illegal Zamzam Water Bottling Operation
SHARJAH: Authorities in Sharjah have dismantled an illegal water bottling operation after discovering that a residential property was being used to package and sell regular tank water falsely labeled as Zamzam, as reported by Khaleej Times on Wednesday.
The illicit activity came to light during routine inspections conducted by Sharjah City Municipality in coordination with the Control and Inspection Department and the Health Control and Safety Department.
Municipal officials became suspicious after observing frequent vehicle movement transporting bottled water from the residential premises. A subsequent raid led to the arrest of one individual at the site, where plastic bottles and cartons falsely branded as Zamzam water were being filled under unhygienic conditions.

According to officials, the counterfeit water was being sold at inflated prices and promoted through social media platforms. Legal and administrative action has been initiated against the suspect.
Obaid Al Teneiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality, stated, “The municipality continuously monitors harmful practices that pose risks to public health and takes firm action against anyone engaged in fraudulent activities.”
During the investigation, authorities also uncovered financial records tied to RT Mineral Water Trading Company—a legally registered entity owned by the suspect. The company was allegedly used to issue fraudulent invoices and mislead consumers.
Sharjah Municipality, in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development, has revoked the company’s business license and sealed the residential unit used for the operation. The suspect has been transferred to Sharjah Police for further legal proceedings.
All counterfeit materials were confiscated, and officials have urged the public to report any suspicious commercial activities. The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring public health and safety.
