Pakistan has launched the Maktab Digital System to modernize student record management across public universities. The announcement was made by Federal Education Minister Wajiha Qamar on Monday.
The system has been introduced under the Higher Education Commission framework. In the initial phase, it will cover 25 public universities. Authorities plan to expand it to all public universities in the coming stages.
The Maktab Digital System is designed to maintain complete academic records of students. It will track enrolment details, grades, transcripts, and degree issuance. Officials said the platform will follow a student’s academic journey from admission to graduation.
Minister Qamar stated that the system will improve transparency and reduce delays. All academic information will be available through a single digital portal. This will help universities manage records more efficiently.
Artificial intelligence will play a key role in operating the platform. According to officials, AI tools will help ensure secure data handling and accurate record management. The system is expected to reduce errors and prevent record manipulation.
The initiative also aims to strengthen accountability in higher education institutions. It will improve digital oversight and scrutiny of internal processes. Authorities said this will promote transparent operations within universities.
Students and parents will have direct access to complaint channels. They can submit concerns through digital portals and e-katcheries. This step is expected to improve monitoring and service delivery.
The first phase of the Maktab Digital System focuses on BS program admissions. Around 4,000 students are expected to benefit initially. Officials confirmed that the platform will later expand to cover other academic programs.
In addition to this reform, the Inter Board Coordination Commission has introduced a 24-hour online service. The system will handle equivalence and verification requests. It will also streamline registration for international boards.
Minister Qamar said these initiatives are part of a broader reform agenda. The goal is to modernize Pakistan’s education sector and improve quality standards. She added that digital systems will help enhance Pakistan’s global academic image.
