Major Oil and Gas Reserves Discovered in KP’s Karak District

In a significant development for Pakistan’s energy sector, major oil and gas reserves have been discovered in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), the company spearheading the exploration, announced the breakthrough in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The discovery was made in the Tal Block, where initial estimates suggest the well could yield around 22 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, along with an impressive 2,112 barrels of oil daily. This marks one of the most promising finds in the region in recent years.

According to POL, drilling operations began in December 2024, and the reserves were identified at a depth of 3,887 meters. The company expects to connect the well to the production network within the next two months.

The discovery is expected to bolster domestic energy supplies and reduce reliance on imports, offering a timely boost to Pakistan’s economy and energy infrastructure.
