Major Alcohol Shipment Intercepted as Police Prepare for New Year's Eve Celebrations

A significant shipment of alcohol intended for distribution during New Year’s Eve celebrations was intercepted by police in Lahore. The raid took place at the Model Town Caddery Parking lot, following a tip-off. Police, led by Naseerabad authorities, found 140 bottles of liquor with a suspect named Ashraf, who admitted to bringing the alcohol for distribution across various locations to supply people celebrating the occasion. A case has been filed, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, security preparations are ramping up across major cities in Pakistan. In Lahore, the Additional IG Traffic Punjab has issued directives for traffic management during New Year’s Eve. Special traffic personnel will be deployed to manage the heavy flow of vehicles, and only a limited number of vehicles will be allowed on major roads.

In Karachi, the police have issued a stern warning against celebratory firing, announcing that anyone caught will face charges of attempted murder. Authorities have already implemented strict measures to enforce a ban on aerial firing, including announcements at mosques urging people to refrain from the dangerous practice. The West Zone police have also launched an initiative to collect licensed weapons to prevent celebratory gunfire, successfully gathering hundreds of firearms.

To ensure safety during the celebrations, Karachi has deployed 1,431 police personnel to key locations like Sea View, churches, and other public venues. Additional security measures include the enforcement of Section 144, which prohibits the use of firearms, fireworks, and aerial firing. Karachi Traffic Police have also announced road closures in certain areas, advising residents of DHA to use alternative routes.
