Pakistan’s acting red-ball head coach, Azhar Mahmood, has expressed full confidence in his team’s ability to deliver solid performances in the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The two-match series will also mark Pakistan’s first assignment in the new ICC World Test Championship cycle 2025–27.

Speaking ahead of the tour, Mahmood said the players have shown great commitment during the ongoing red-ball training camp. He praised the team’s focus and discipline, stating that Pakistan has the potential to perform strongly against the Proteas, both at home and away.

Mahmood emphasized that the series will test Pakistan’s consistency and mental strength. He added that facing South Africa in their conditions will be challenging but also a valuable experience for the younger players. The coach urged the team to stay composed under pressure and capitalize on key moments during the matches.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has assured full support for Mahmood and Test captain Shan Masood ahead of the series. Senior players, including Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, have also joined the training sessions, aiming to build rhythm and confidence before the first Test.

Mahmood said his goal is to establish a winning mindset within the team. He noted that Pakistan’s batting depth and improved bowling attack could play a major role in achieving success in South Africa. He also underlined the importance of learning from past mistakes and focusing on long-term progress.

With strong preparation and clear intent, Mahmood believes Pakistan can produce a much-improved performance and begin their new WTC campaign on a high note.
