Maduro Warns Of Republic In Arms If US Launches Attack On Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has warned that he will declare a “republic in arms” if the United States attacks Venezuela. This comes amid rising tensions over a major US military deployment in the Caribbean.

Speaking to reporters, Maduro accused the US of planning regime change under the cover of an anti-drug operation. He said, “If Venezuela were attacked, we would immediately move to armed struggle to defend our land.”

Maduro also claimed that the US has sent eight military ships, including a submarine, to the Caribbean, with 1,200 missiles aimed at Venezuela. The US currently has four naval ships in the region, including two guided-missile destroyers.

Washington insists the mission targets Latin American drug cartels and has no plans to deploy troops on Venezuelan soil. However, reports say amphibious assault ships carrying thousands of soldiers and Marines may soon join the mission.

The Trump administration accused Maduro of links to drug trafficking and offered a $50 million reward for information leading to his arrest. Yet, an internal US intelligence report reportedly found no solid evidence connecting Maduro to Venezuela’s criminal groups.

Despite the harsh words, Maduro has shown some willingness to cooperate with the US on issues like deportations. He also maintains he is the legitimate leader of Venezuela after his disputed 2024 re-election.

Many Western and regional governments refuse to recognize Maduro’s victory. The opposition claims they won the election.

Tensions remain high between the US and Venezuela as both sides watch closely.
