Madiha Shah Explains Why She Turned Down Film With Akshay Kumar

Celebrated Pakistani actress Madiha Shah has opened up about turning down a major Bollywood opportunity opposite Akshay Kumar in the 1994 blockbuster Mohra. The actress said she declined the role to continue working in Pakistan and contribute to her country’s entertainment industry.

During a recent appearance on a talk show, Madiha Shah shared that she was offered a leading role in Mohra, best known for its iconic song “Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast.” Despite the glamour and exposure Bollywood offered, she chose to remain loyal to Pakistan’s showbiz industry.

She explained, “I was offered to work with Akshay Kumar in Mohra, but I didn’t accept the offer because I wanted to give priority to my own country.” Her statement reflects her strong sense of patriotism and commitment to promoting Pakistani talent.

Madiha Shah emphasized that she always felt a responsibility to represent her homeland’s artists rather than seeking fame abroad. Throughout her career, she has maintained a deep connection to Pakistan’s entertainment scene, earning respect for her dedication and performances in television and theatre.

The veteran actress also recalled several emotional encounters with renowned industry figures. She mentioned that actor Afzaal Ahmed was often moved to tears by her performances. She added that Indian icons like Shabana Azmi, Anil Kapoor’s father, and poet Gulzar had praised her stage play “Janam Janam Ki Maili Chadar.”

According to her, Shabana Azmi became emotional after watching the play and said that although India has its own strong theatre culture, Madiha Shah’s performance stood out as a masterpiece.
