A deadly flash flood in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district has claimed multiple lives, including two individuals from Lodhran.

Among the deceased were Dr. Fahad Islam, a practicing doctor, and his sister-in-law, the wife of his brother Saad Islam. They were part of a 22-member tourist group from Lodhran, enjoying a trip to the northern areas.

The tragedy struck as the group was returning from Skardu via Babusar-Thak Road, where they were caught in a sudden and powerful flash flood. The calamity swept away eight vehicles, leaving more than 15 tourists missing and stranding hundreds in the area.

Family members confirmed that Dr. Fahad’s father sustained injuries in the incident, while a three-year-old child is still missing. Fortunately, the rest of the family survived.

Rescue teams are actively engaged in recovery efforts, working to locate missing individuals and retrieve the bodies. Authorities have assured that once the weather clears, the deceased will be transported back to Lodhran.

Dr. Fahad’s family had close ties to Dr. Affan Qaiser — a renowned gastroenterologist, media figure, and head of the Gastroenterology Department at Shahida Islam Medical Complex in Lodhran. The tragic loss has deeply impacted the medical community and local residents.

This heartbreaking incident underscores the hazards posed by extreme weather in Pakistan’s mountainous regions, particularly during the monsoon season. Authorities have advised travelers to check weather conditions and take safety precautions before planning trips to the north.
