Rs. 1 Million Electric Car from Pakistan Could Launch Soon

The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has announced that a locally manufactured electric car could launch in Pakistan by June, with a price tag of around Rs. 1 million.

EDB Chief Executive Hammad Mansoor shared the update during an Iftar dinner with journalists. He confirmed that the vehicle will be fully electric and “Made-in-Pakistan.”

Mansoor also indicated that the upcoming federal budget may reduce taxes on vehicles. This move could make hybrid, electric, and conventional cars more affordable for Pakistani consumers.

He added that the automobile sector is experiencing changes. For years, a few large manufacturers dominated the market, but new companies are entering and local production is increasing.

According to Mansoor, increased competition and local manufacturing could reduce car prices by up to Rs. 2.5 million, benefiting buyers nationwide.

The introduction of a locally made electric car is seen as a step toward sustainable and environmentally friendly transport. It also aims to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported vehicles.

Industry experts believe the arrival of an affordable electric car could transform the country’s automobile market. It will offer consumers more choices while supporting domestic production.

Officials said that government support, combined with potential tax incentives, may encourage further investment in the electric car sector. The initiative aligns with efforts to promote clean energy and modern mobility solutions.
