Lion attacks man after escaping from Rawalpindi PWD Zoo

Panic erupted in Rawalpindi’s PWD area when a lion, reportedly escaped from a nearby zoo, attacked a man. The Wildlife Department acted quickly, capturing the big cat before the situation worsened.

The lion wandered through Scheme-III before reaching PWD, where it targeted an unsuspecting individual. Although zoo escapes are uncommon, Islamabad and other parts of the country have recently seen multiple incidents involving big cats fleeing private farmhouses.

In Lahore, a lion escaped from a farmhouse, causing chaos on a busy street and injuring a child and her mother. A video of the incident went viral, sparking public outrage and prompting authorities to crack down on illegal exotic pets. Numerous arrests were made, and several pet lions were confiscated.

Following the Lahore attack, Punjab authorities seized 18 illegally kept lions after one escaped and attacked a woman and two children. The animals were relocated to a safari park, and the owner was arrested.

This crackdown, directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to curb unlicensed exotic pet ownership across the province. Officials also raided 38 breeding farms, arresting eight people, and reported that Punjab currently has 584 lions and tigers in private homes and farms.
