The cold winter in Punjab is fading as spring begins to take over. The Meteorological Department has forecast clear skies and gentle winds in Lahore ahead of Basant.
Recent weeks brought harsh and icy weather, but temperatures are now rising. Softer, warmer air is gradually replacing the winter chill. This seasonal change signals the arrival of spring across much of Punjab.
According to the Met Department, Lahore will see dry and clear weather on February 6 and 7. Light clouds may appear on February 8. Winds are expected to blow at five to ten kilometers per hour, creating ideal conditions for Basant kite flying.
Meteorologists say the pleasant spring breeze is set to continue for the coming days. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain comfortable, adding to the festive atmosphere. The department confirmed that Lahore will enjoy the “best wind” during Basant, perfect for outdoor festivities.
Meteorology Director General Meher Sahibzad Khan said favorable winds will enhance Basant celebrations. Residents can enjoy kite flying safely in the clear, warm weather. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines during the festival.
While Lahore enjoys favorable weather, rain is likely in Rawalpindi and Islamabad next Friday. The DG Met advised residents to monitor updates as conditions may change. The rainfall could bring further relief as temperatures gradually rise in these areas.
In Islamabad, weather conditions are expected to remain generally suitable for kite flying despite occasional showers. The seasonal shift is welcomed by residents after a long period of cold and harsh winds.
As Punjab transitions from winter to spring, Lahore’s Basant celebrations are set to benefit from clear skies, gentle winds, and warm temperatures. The combination of pleasant weather and festive spirit is expected to make the event enjoyable for everyone.
