Lahore Traffic Police Seize 363 Vehicles in Crackdown

The Lahore City Traffic Police launched an extensive enforcement campaign across Lahore targeting serious traffic violations, intensifying monitoring and roadblock checks to improve road safety and discipline. Officials described the operation as part of a broader strategy to curb reckless driving habits and enforce compliance with traffic regulations that are frequently ignored.

Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Athar Waheed said special checkpoints were established at multiple locations during the past twelve hours, enabling officers to inspect vehicles and identify violations efficiently. He noted that strict enforcement was necessary to protect citizens’ lives and reduce accident risks caused by negligence and unsafe driving practices.

During the operation, authorities impounded 363 vehicles and shifted them to relevant police stations after detecting major rule violations. Enforcement teams focused on high-risk offenses such as driving against traffic flow, ignoring lane discipline, and operating vehicles without legal identification or documentation.

Official statistics showed that 1,946 motorcyclists were fined for riding without helmets, a violation considered one of the leading causes of fatal injuries in road accidents. Meanwhile, 665 vehicles received challans for one-way violations, and 299 drivers were penalized for disregarding lane rules designed to maintain traffic order.

In addition, authorities issued tickets to 298 vehicles displaying non-standard or missing number plates, which officials say complicate identification and law enforcement efforts. Traffic experts stress that proper registration plates help prevent crimes involving vehicles and improve accountability on public roads.

Officials emphasized that enforcement will continue without discrimination, warning motorists that stricter monitoring will remain in place. The campaign aligns with wider safety initiatives supported by Punjab Safe Cities, aimed at strengthening urban traffic management, reducing accidents, and encouraging responsible driving behavior throughout the provincial capital.
