Authorities in Lahore have fined 1,763 smoke-emitting vehicles a combined Rs5.5 million during October as part of an ongoing campaign to control air pollution and reduce smog.
The enforcement drive is targeting vehicles that release excessive smoke, industrial units contributing to pollution, overloaded transport, and the burning of agricultural waste across Lahore Division.
During the current month, officials also impounded 739 vehicles for violating traffic and environmental regulations. Action was taken against overloaded vehicles as authorities worked to remove excess loads and improve compliance with transport rules.
The figures were shared by Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousuf during a meeting held to review anti-pollution measures across the division.
41 Factories and 146 Restaurants Sealed
Authorities have also increased inspections of industrial and commercial facilities to identify sources of pollution.
According to the reported figures, inspection teams visited 2,018 industrial units across Lahore Division. Following these inspections, officials sealed 41 factories and 146 restaurants over their role in causing pollution.
The action is part of a wider effort to ensure that businesses follow environmental regulations and do not contribute to the worsening air quality.
Industrial emissions and smoke from commercial activities are among the sources being targeted during the ongoing campaign.
Action Against Crop Residue Burning
The administration has also taken action against the burning of crop residues, which contributes to seasonal air pollution in Punjab.
Officials carried out enforcement operations at 49 locations across Lahore Division where crop residue burning was reported.
The crackdown resulted in the registration of eight first information reports (FIRs). Authorities also imposed fines worth Rs240,000 on individuals involved in burning agricultural waste.
Crop residue burning is a major concern during the smog season because smoke and pollutants can worsen air quality across nearby urban and rural areas.
Anti-Smog Operations Continue Across Lahore Division
The campaign covers several areas, including vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, overloaded transport, and agricultural waste burning.
The fines imposed on smoke-emitting vehicles and action against factories and restaurants show the range of enforcement measures being used by the administration.
Officials are continuing inspections and monitoring activities to identify violations and take action against those responsible.
With smog becoming a recurring problem in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, authorities are focusing on reducing pollution from multiple sources.
Vehicle owners have been urged to ensure that their vehicles meet environmental standards and do not release excessive smoke. Industrial and commercial operators are also expected to follow environmental regulations to avoid penalties and possible closure.
The latest figures indicate that enforcement operations are continuing across Lahore Division as authorities attempt to control pollution during the ongoing smog season.
