In a significant achievement for wildlife conservation, the Lahore Safari Zoo has successfully hatched ten ostrich chicks through artificial incubation—marking the first time the facility has accomplished this feat.

Zoo authorities revealed that the delicate process required precise environmental control, particularly low humidity, to ensure the eggs’ viability. A specialized incubation system was designed to maintain optimal temperature and other critical conditions for the embryos’ development.

The newborn chicks are under 24/7 supervision by veterinary experts and zookeepers. To safeguard their health, the chicks are being kept on soft rubber mats to prevent injuries, with their habitat carefully regulated to support proper growth. Officials confirm that the young ostriches are healthy and progressing well.

This breakthrough is being hailed as a major milestone in Pakistan’s wildlife conservation efforts. While ostrich farming once flourished in Punjab’s private sector, most ventures ceased due to financial and logistical hurdles. The zoo’s success now provides a scientific model for sustainable breeding, potentially reviving interest in ostrich conservation.

In an effort to promote public awareness, the Lahore Safari Zoo has opened viewing access to the chicks. Officials hope this initiative will inspire greater appreciation for species preservation and responsible captive breeding practices.
