Lahore Ramps Up Traffic and Security Plans Ahead of Eid ul Azha

To manage the expected surge in public movement and traffic during Eidul Azha, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer Dr Athar Waheed has unveiled an intensive citywide traffic control initiative. The plan includes 24/7 patrolling across all 44 sectors of the city, with a particular focus on high-traffic zones near major cattle markets.

Special traffic police camps have been set up at these markets, offering commuters water facilities and public address systems to ensure smooth flow and assistance. Dr Waheed also warned that strict action will be taken against traffic violators and E-Challan defaulters, underscoring the city’s zero-tolerance stance.

This traffic plan is part of a broader security initiative led by the Punjab Home Department. The department has mandated heightened vigilance at Eid congregations, mosques, markets, and public gathering points, with screening, surveillance, and coordinated security checks already underway.

Sacrificial animal hide collection will be restricted to registered organisations only, while banned outfits will face uncompromising action. Section 144 may be enforced by deputy commissioners where necessary to preserve public order, and cattle markets have been restricted to designated areas outside city limits.

Additionally, hospitals across Punjab have been placed on high alert to manage potential emergencies, and the Punjab Sound Systems Act will be strictly implemented to prevent sectarian disturbances during the festivities.
