Extensive Operations Launched by Law Enforcement Agencies

Law enforcement agencies in Lahore have launched a comprehensive crackdown targeting individuals linked to the events of May 9, 2023, as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for a rally scheduled for Saturday.

Lahore’s police force has devised a robust action plan, assigning divisional superintendents to oversee the crackdown. According to police sources, all station house officers (SHOs) have been instructed to apprehend those still evading arrest in connection with the May 9th incidents. The crackdown is being intensified as PTI readies for a potential public gathering, with law enforcement on high alert to maintain public order.

Security Measures Under Review for PTI Rally

A police spokesperson stated that meticulous security arrangements are being formulated for the upcoming rally. However, the final security strategy will be contingent upon confirmation of the rally’s location. If the district administration grants permission for the event, additional security duties will be delegated to officers stationed at the site.

To bolster security, surveillance cameras will be installed at the entrances of the potential rally venue to record the identities of attendees. Additionally, officials present at the event will be equipped with photographs and data of individuals wanted in connection with the May 9th disturbances, enabling immediate identification and detention if necessary.

Legal Opposition to PTI Rally in Lahore

In parallel, a petition was submitted to the Lahore High Court on Wednesday, seeking to prevent the PTI from holding the rally. Filed by Mirza Wahid Rafique through Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, the petition names the PTI and the Punjab government as respondents. It argues that PTI rallies often feature anti-judiciary rhetoric, undermining legal institutions and posing a risk to public safety.

The application warns of potential violence at the proposed Lahore rally, requesting the court to restrict the PTI from organizing public meetings anywhere in Punjab to prevent possible bloodshed
