Lahore traffic police have introduced a new safety requirement for motorcycle ride-hailing services, making helmets compulsory for both riders and passengers.
According to officials, Athar Waheed has directed companies operating bike-hailing services to ensure that passengers are also provided with helmets during their rides. The instruction has been issued to improve road safety and reduce the risk of injuries during accidents.
Under the new rule, companies offering motorcycle ride services must keep an additional helmet available for passengers. This means that during double riding, both the rider and the passenger must wear protective helmets throughout the journey.
The Chief Traffic Officer emphasized that riding a motorcycle with two people without helmets is already against traffic regulations. He warned that authorities will take strict action against those who violate the rule.
Ride-hailing companies operating in Lahore have been instructed to fully comply with the directive. They are now responsible for ensuring that every passenger using bike services is provided with a helmet before starting the trip. The move is part of broader efforts by city authorities to strengthen road safety and enforce traffic laws more effectively.
In recent developments Careem announces to launch women only bike service.
