Lahore High Court Orders Release of PTI Leader Sher Afzal Marwat

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Lahore High Court (LHC) has mandated the release of PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, directing the deputy commissioner to release the politician upon the submission of a surety bond.

Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry presided over the hearing, which involved a petition challenging the legality of Sher Afzal Marwat’s detention. The court had solicited responses from all involved parties.

The petition contended that Marwat’s detention was unlawful. The government’s legal representative countered, asserting that the applicant should address the relevant forum against the detention.

The response clarified that the deputy commissioner had issued the detention order, and the appropriate course of action was to submit an application to the government first. The response also urged the court to dismiss the petition challenging Marwat’s detention.

Advocate Latif Khosa, representing the petitioner, argued that Marwat was apprehended immediately after leaving the Lahore High Court Bar, where he had spoken. Khosa contended that legal procedures were not followed, rendering the detention illegal.

He urged the court to declare the Lahore deputy commissioner’s directive under the MPO as unlawful and order Marwat’s immediate release.

During the proceedings, Punjab Additional Advocate General Mohsin Abbas pointed out that the petitioner had directly approached the high court without seeking recourse through the relevant forum.

Sher Afzal Marwat, PTI Senior Vice President, was arrested by Lahore police on December 14 outside the Lahore High Court. The legal team member was taken into custody amid resistance from lawyers attempting to prevent his arrest. The police cited Marwat’s alleged role in causing social disturbance, stating that he would be charged under Section 3 of the MPO. A 30-day detention order for Sher Afzal Marwat had been issued.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
