Authorities in Lahore are finalizing preparations for the Basant festival to ensure a safe celebration. Forty locations have been designated as Red Zones. These areas are identified based on past incidents of injuries and fatalities caused by kite flying.
The Lahore police have developed a comprehensive security plan. Joint teams of police officers and traffic wardens will be deployed to maintain law and order throughout the festivities. CCTV cameras in Safe City zones will provide round-the-clock monitoring to enforce restrictions.
At present, kite flying remains fully banned in Lahore. The Punjab government will issue an official notification before any controlled kite flying is allowed. Special permissions will be required to transport kites and strings within the city.
Authorities have also allowed citizens to install protective barriers on motorcycles. These measures aim to prevent injuries from sharp kite strings while maintaining public safety. Police officials emphasized that strict enforcement will be maintained in all Red Zones.
