Lahore Bans Basant 2026 at Multiple Places

A major step to ensure public safety during Basant, the city administration has enforced a complete ban on kite flying in all parks, green belts, and lawns across Lahore. The decision aims to prevent accidents and maintain security in public spaces during the festive period.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore has issued a formal notification to all zone directors, directing them to strictly implement the ban within their respective areas. The directive makes it clear that zone directors will be personally responsible for enforcing the restrictions in parks under their control, with zero tolerance for violations.

According to the PHA, any failure to comply with the ban will lead to accountability measures against the concerned officials. The authority has also warned that departmental action will be initiated against officers who neglect their duties, reinforcing the seriousness of the directive.

The move comes as part of broader safety arrangements for Basant 2026, a festival that attracts large crowds across the city. Officials believe restricting kite flying in public parks and green spaces will significantly reduce the risk of injuries, property damage, and public inconvenience.

Earlier, the Lahore Deputy Commissioner had announced that kite flying would be permitted in the city from 6th to 8th February 2026, subject to strict rules and safety guidelines. The permission was granted through official Notification No. ADC(G)/2025/1190, issued to regulate the festival in line with the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Ordinance, 2025.

Under the notification, only approved materials will be allowed for kite flying. Detailed regulations cover the size of kites, the type of thread used, and the manufacturing, sale, and trade of kite-related items. These measures are designed to ensure that Basant remains a joyful, safe, and well-managed event for citizens. Also Read: Basant 2026: Shortlisted Locations Across Lahore
