Lahore ATC Approves Bail for PTI Founder in Four May 9 Cases

The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in four cases related to the May 9 incidents, which involved widespread violence and arson in Lahore.

Judge Arshad Javed issued the bail order after hearing the petition. During the hearing, the Punjab Prosecutor General argued that the May 9 rally on Mall Road had escalated into coordinated attacks on locations such as Askari Tower and Jinnah House, intended to provoke public unrest. The Prosecutor pointed out that bails for other co-accused individuals had been denied in previous hearings.

However, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, argued that the PTI leader was not present in Lahore on May 9 and there was no credible evidence linking him to the violent incidents. He claimed that the charges were politically motivated.

After considering the arguments and reviewing the evidence, the court granted bail for four of the cases, which include charges of setting fire to government property and vehicles.

Imran Khan still faces bail hearings for eight additional cases related to the May 9 events, with the next hearing scheduled for November 30 at Lahore’s ATC Court No. 1.
