Lahore Airport Fire Disrupts Initial Hajj Flights

A fire broke out at an immigration counter in Lahore’s Jinnah International Airport on Thursday, fortunately causing no injuries. However, the incident led to delays in several international flights, including the first two Hajj flights, as it occurred in the airport’s lounge area.

The blaze originated from the immigration counter sealing and was swiftly extinguished, with no casualties reported. However, smoke quickly filled the lounge, prompting the evacuation of passengers.

Airport authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, which notably impacted the immigration counter operations.

The disruption caused by the fire resulted in the cancellation of at least six flights, including Qatar Airways flight QR 629, causing inconvenience to departing passengers. Despite the chaotic circumstances, incoming flights were not rerouted, although concerns arose regarding the immigration process at the arrival desk.

Efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident underscores the importance of maintaining stringent safety protocols at airports to safeguard both passengers and infrastructure.

Authorities are working diligently to restore normal operations at the airport and minimize any further disruptions to flight schedules. Passengers are advised to stay updated with airline notifications and cooperate with airport personnel to facilitate the smooth resumption of services.
