Kyrgyzstan Adopts Online Exams Due To Student Violence

In response to recent violent incidents against foreign students, particularly Pakistanis, in Kyrgyzstan, the Afghan Ministry of Education has mandated that university exams will now be held online. A statement from the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Education indicates that all university exams will transition to online formats, enabling students to return to their home countries, except those in their final semester.

According to the directive from the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Education, online exams will encompass semesters one through nine, with the exam schedule shared via WhatsApp.

This decision follows a disturbing event on Friday in Bishkek, where hundreds of Kyrgyz individuals attacked residential buildings housing foreign students, including a significant number of Pakistani nationals who form a substantial part of the diverse student body in the Central Asian country.

The unrest was triggered by the spread of viral videos showing a violent confrontation between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students earlier in the month. The circulation of these videos online sparked a wave of anti-foreigner sentiment throughout the week, which ultimately led to the targeted assaults on student housing.
