[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev held discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in Astana on Monday. Kulubaev assured Dar that Kyrgyz authorities would take legal action against those responsible for recent mob violence against foreign students in Bishkek, as reported by Pakistani state media.

Following the circulation of videos depicting a clash between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students, frenzied mobs targeted hostels and private lodgings of international students, including Pakistanis, in Bishkek. In response, Pakistan intensified efforts to repatriate its students from Bishkek, with over 600 returning home on three separate flights. Approximately 10,000 Pakistani students are enrolled in various educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan, with nearly 6,000 studying in Bishkek.

The meeting between Dar and Kulubaev occurred during the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan. Kulubaev assured Dar of swift action to restore order and punish those involved in the violence.

Dar expressed concerns about the safety of Pakistani students and urged Kulubaev to ensure their security. Discussions also encompassed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan, focusing on energy, connectivity, trade, and people-to-people interactions.

Dar’s visit to Kazakhstan aims to attend the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting and engage in bilateral talks. Established in 2001, the SCO comprises China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, collectively representing a significant portion of the world’s population and economy.

The SCO promotes peace, stability, and economic cooperation, aligning with Pakistan’s regional vision and objectives since becoming a full member in 2017.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
