The Finance Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued fresh directives instructing government offices to implement strict fuel conservation measures due to concerns over potential disruptions in petroleum supplies. The decision comes amid an ongoing global crisis that could affect the supply chain of petroleum products and create shortages at the local level.
According to an official notification, all government departments, attached formations, and subordinate offices have been asked to ensure the careful and economical use of fuel in official operations. Authorities have emphasized that fuel consumption must be restricted to essential government duties, emergency response activities, and unavoidable field operations only.
Under the new guidelines, non-essential travel has been immediately restricted. This includes outstation visits, ceremonial trips, routine inspections, and other unnecessary official journeys that could increase fuel usage. Officials have been instructed to limit travel to only those activities that are considered critical for administrative or operational purposes.
The directive also clearly states that government vehicles should be used strictly for official duties. To further reduce fuel consumption, offices have been encouraged to adopt vehicle pooling whenever possible. Departments have also been advised to avoid deploying multiple vehicles for the same assignment in order to minimize unnecessary fuel usage.
Additionally, government offices have been encouraged to conduct meetings through virtual platforms whenever feasible. By shifting internal and inter-departmental discussions to online platforms, authorities hope to significantly cut down travel and reduce overall fuel consumption.
Administrative departments have also been directed to closely monitor and document fuel allocations as well as vehicle usage. This step is intended to ensure proper compliance with the newly issued conservation guidelines.
Meanwhile, department heads have been instructed to raise awareness among officers and staff regarding the importance of saving fuel and using government resources responsibly during the current situation. Despite these austerity measures, the Finance Department has clarified that the ongoing budget cycle and preparations for the upcoming financial year must continue without interruption.
