The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Education Department has announced the closure of BS Programs in government colleges across the province. The decision comes after a review of student enrollment and dropout rates.
According to the official notification, many subjects under BS Programs were considered unnecessary. To replace them, Associate Degree (AD) programs will be introduced, aiming to provide more practical and relevant education.
The department stated that enrollment in BS Programs has remained low over the years. High dropout rates further prompted the government to shift focus from traditional four-year programs to shorter AD courses.
The notification highlighted that 230 BS Programs in 128 colleges will be replaced with AD programs. Additionally, several subjects have already been closed in 36 colleges. A detailed list of affected courses and colleges has been released for public awareness.
Officials explained that the move aims to modernize KP’s higher education system. By replacing BS Programs with AD courses, the government hopes to reduce student dropouts and enhance employability after graduation. The reforms are expected to align educational offerings with current job market demands.
The KP Education Department has urged students, parents, and teachers to review the official notification for complete information on the transition. Students currently enrolled in BS Programs will receive guidance on how the changes affect their studies.
This step marks a significant reform in KP’s education sector. By introducing Associate Degree programs, the government plans to make higher education more accessible, practical, and in tune with employment opportunities across the province.
The shift from BS Programs to AD courses is part of broader efforts to improve student outcomes and streamline academic offerings in KP’s public colleges.
