The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced three public holidays for the upcoming Eid ul Fitr celebrations, according to a press release issued by the administration department. The notification specifies that March 19, 20, and 21, 2026 — Thursday through Saturday — will be observed as public holidays across the province, with all government offices remaining closed except for essential services.
Meanwhile, the federal government of Pakistan has also declared March 20 and 21 as public holidays for Eid, following approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The announcement was issued through the Cabinet Division and aligns with provincial arrangements, ensuring a coordinated holiday schedule across Pakistan.
The Eid holidays coincide with the weekly Sunday holiday and Pakistan Day on March 23, effectively creating an extended break for public sector employees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. For many, this will result in up to five consecutive days off from work, allowing ample time for family gatherings, festive activities, and travel.
Officials have reminded the public that essential services, including hospitals, emergency services, and law enforcement, will continue to operate during the holidays. Citizens are also advised to plan administrative tasks and public dealings accordingly, as most government offices will remain closed during this period.
The announcement follows the trend of previous years, where both provincial and federal authorities coordinate holiday schedules for major religious festivals. The extended holiday period is expected to boost local travel and commercial activity in festive markets across the province.
As preparations for Eid ul Fitr intensify, residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are gearing up to celebrate with family, friends, and community events, taking advantage of the consecutive public holidays to enjoy the festive season.
