This warning arises due to an extreme heatwave, significantly raising the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF).
“Due to the increasing temperatures and current meteorological conditions, there is a heightened risk of GLOF, severe floods, landslides, and strong winds in KP and GB from May 21 to 27,” the NDMA announced.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s prediction of possible GLOF incidents has led the NDMA to issue specific instructions to the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) in KP and the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA).
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) is closely monitoring GLOF-prone areas, providing essential data to aid preparedness efforts. The NDMA has emphasized the need for mock drills in high-risk areas to ensure readiness for evacuation and emergency response.
Provincial Disaster Management Authorities are instructed to:
Coordinate Closely: Work with relevant departments to arrange and pre-position necessary supplies and equipment in anticipation of disruptions, road closures, or emergencies in vulnerable areas.
Ensure Personnel Availability: Make sure personnel are available to manage and respond to emergencies effectively.
– Alert Local Communities and Tourists: Inform locals, tourists, and travelers in high-risk areas to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
– Conduct Mock Drills: Facilitate timely evacuation and ensure safety by conducting mock drills and maintaining constant communication.
Residents and visitors in KP and GB are urged to stay informed through official channels and follow safety advisories. The NDMA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to protect public safety and minimize the impact of natural disasters.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
