Lahore Child Injured Dangerous Kite Strings Raise Concerns

A serious incident involving a kite string has once again raised safety concerns in Lahore. A 10-year-old boy was injured after being struck by a sharp string while playing outside with friends.

The incident took place in Valencia Town, Lahore. The child was playing in L-Block of the area. During the activity, a kite string suddenly wrapped around his neck. The injured child was identified as Mustafa Afandi.

Local residents rushed the boy to a nearby hospital immediately. Doctors provided emergency medical treatment on arrival. According to hospital officials, the injury was serious but not life-threatening. After treatment, the child’s condition improved. He was later discharged the same evening.

This incident comes amid growing concerns over injuries caused by dangerous kite strings. Such strings are often coated with chemicals or glass. These materials make them extremely harmful.

In a separate incident, a young man was injured in the Gajumata area of Lahore. A kite string wrapped around his neck, causing injuries. He was taken to Lahore General Hospital for treatment.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that the injured man escaped from the hospital. Officials said some CCTV cameras were not working at the time. The administration stated the man fled due to fear. Police are still investigating the case. They are also determining the exact police jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, Lahore police have intensified their crackdown on illegal kite sales. Eleven people were arrested for selling kites without registration. The arrests were made in Shahdara Town and Ravi Road areas.

Police recovered 1,520 kites and 27 reels of banned chemical kite string from the suspects. Six people were arrested in Shahdara Town. Authorities recovered 900 kites and 17 reels there. Five more suspects were arrested from Ravi Road. Police seized 620 kites and 10 reels from them.

According to the SSP City, the accused were supplying kites across the city. They used loader trucks, rickshaws, and other vehicles. Separate cases have been registered against all suspects.

Taking notice of the incidents, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered strict action. He directed authorities to identify those responsible using Safe City cameras. He also ordered an intensified crackdown across Lahore.

The DIG said kite flying is completely banned except on officially approved days. He warned that violations involving kite string are life-threatening crimes. Authorities have enforced a zero-tolerance policy to prevent further tragedies.
