King Charles III was briefly hospitalized on Thursday for observation following temporary side-effects from his ongoing cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace confirmed. The 76-year-old monarch received scheduled care at the London Clinic, the same hospital where he was treated for an enlarged prostate in January 2024.
After his short stay, the King returned to Clarence House in good spirits and resumed some of his duties, including reviewing state papers and making calls from his study. However, on medical advice, the King postponed his official engagements for Thursday and Friday as a precautionary measure. He had been set to meet ambassadors on Thursday and attend four public events in Birmingham the following day, all of which will be rescheduled.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace reassured the public, emphasizing that the hospital visit was minor and that such side-effects are typical with ongoing treatment. They added that the King deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponements.
Diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, King Charles has continued his public duties while undergoing weekly treatment. His hospital visit is not expected to affect his upcoming state visit to Italy in 10 days, where he will make history as the first British monarch to address both houses of the Italian Parliament.
The King’s schedule is being closely monitored by his medical team to ensure a balance between his recovery and his official responsibilities.
