Kim Jong Un Travels To China For WWII Anniversary Parade Event

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has crossed into China ahead of a major military parade. The event marks the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.

Kim Jong Un arrived in Beijing by armored train early Tuesday. He was accompanied by senior officials from North Korea’s Workers’ Party and government.

The parade on Wednesday will host 26 world leaders. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also attending. It is the first time these three leaders will share the same stage at an international event.

Kim Jong Un’s visit follows the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin. At the summit, Xi and Putin criticized Western influence in global affairs.

North Korea has long depended on China and Russia for political and economic support. Recently, Kim Jong Un has strengthened ties with Moscow, including sending troops to assist Russia in Ukraine.

Since coming to power in 2011, Kim Jong Un has met Chinese President Xi Jinping five times. Their last meeting was in 2019 during the 70th anniversary of China-North Korea relations. Kim has met Russian President Vladimir Putin three times. Their most recent meeting was in June 2024 in Pyongyang, where they signed a mutual defense treaty.

The parade in Beijing will display China’s military strength. Experts say Kim Jong Un’s presence signals growing unity among China, Russia, and North Korea. This united front opposes Western pressure amid rising global tensions.

Kim Jong Un’s visit highlights the close ties between these three nations. The event also serves as a reminder of the shifting global power dynamics.
