North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally supervised the testing of advanced drones integrated with artificial intelligence, marking a significant step forward in the country’s military modernization efforts. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim emphasized the importance of prioritizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and AI in military development.
The recent tests involved reconnaissance and suicide drones designed for tactical operations, capable of tracking strategic targets and monitoring enemy movements on both land and sea. Kim stressed the need to expand production of unmanned systems and AI technology to accelerate progress in this area.

Photographs released by KCNA showed Kim inspecting a large unmanned reconnaissance aircraft and boarding an airborne early-warning plane, the first of its kind publicly unveiled by North Korea. The new aircraft features a radar dome similar to those used by South Korea, indicating improvements in North Korea’s air defense capabilities.
During the two-day tests, the drones demonstrated their operational capabilities by targeting ground assets such as military vehicles. Alongside drone advancements, Kim was also briefed on electronic warfare technologies, including intelligence-gathering and jamming systems.
The development of these advanced military technologies comes as North Korea’s military posture is being closely monitored, particularly amid growing tensions in the region and its involvement in supporting Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.
