Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has urged Pakistan to adopt a “hard state” stance to counter extremist religious groups, hinting at a possible ban on the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

Speaking at a press conference, Asif said that the government should no longer tolerate groups that challenge state authority under the guise of religion.

He praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for taking firm action against TLP protests in recent weeks.

Asif noted that such decisive measures are necessary to maintain law and order and prevent the country from being held hostage by violent demonstrations.

The Defence Minister emphasized that Pakistan must uphold its constitutional principles and ensure that no organization operates above the law. He added that the state’s credibility depends on its ability to respond firmly to internal threats.
