Federal Minister Khawaja Asif has hinted that Pakistan may soon launch direct flights to the United States after receiving aviation approval from the United Kingdom. He said this marks an important milestone in restoring international flight operations for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The UK’s aviation authority recently cleared Pakistan for flight operations after a long suspension. Following this, the government is now focusing on meeting requirements from US aviation regulators to begin direct routes.

Khawaja Asif stated that talks are ongoing with American officials, and technical inspections will take place soon. Once approved, flights could start to major US cities, including New York and Chicago.

He added that direct US flights will help improve PIA’s reputation and increase convenience for overseas Pakistanis. The minister said these efforts align with the government’s plan to strengthen the aviation sector and enhance Pakistan’s global connectivity.

Officials believe resuming long-distance flights will boost the national airline’s performance and attract foreign investment, especially as the privatisation process continues.
