Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, accusing the party of normalising abusive language, undermining national institutions, and ignoring the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces. He shared these remarks while speaking to journalists in Sialkot after attending an event organised by an IT company.
According to Khawaja Asif, PTI leaders inside and outside Pakistan have adopted a pattern of using harsh and offensive words. He said that even social media accounts linked to the party founder often follow the same tone. He added that PTI leaders try to use carefully selected words to avoid legal issues, yet continue to spread divisive rhetoric.
The minister said that when abusive language is directed at individuals and institutions, a strong response becomes natural. He stressed that political disagreements should not cross lines that harm national unity.
Comments on Martyrs and National Security
Khawaja Asif condemned what he described as PTI’s refusal to recognise the sacrifices of the armed forces. He said he had personally buried martyrs and questioned why PTI leaders do not attend the funerals of soldiers, even in provinces where their party is active.
He further alleged that PTI has shown sympathy toward militants and should stop supporting extremist narratives. He urged the party to avoid paying ransoms, refrain from praising banned outfits, and instead stand with the armed forces. According to him, those who ignore the sacrifices of the military often find it easy to criticise the DG ISPR, who he said had responded to recent criticism with restraint.
PTI Founder’s Conduct
The minister also questioned the PTI founder’s patriotism. He said the founder’s sister had appeared on Indian media in a tone “no Pakistani should use.” He added that the founder remained silent during national crises, including conflict with India, despite being outspoken on other matters.
National Unity and Political Responsibility
Khawaja Asif said friendly nations always stood with Pakistan during times of conflict, but PTI did not. He accused the party of criticising the military even during sensitive national situations. He urged PTI to continue its political activities but avoid what he described as anti-national behaviour.
