Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said his party has criticised the army in the past but has never crossed the “red line.” He took aim at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for recent controversial actions and statements.
Khawaja Asif accused PTI of controlling social media narratives and claimed some party members are paying extortion to the Taliban. He also highlighted a conversation between PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister and Indian media, calling it the “last nail in the coffin” for the party.
Comparing PTI With Other Political Parties
The defence minister pointed out that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, despite being imprisoned and removed from office multiple times, never spoke against Pakistan’s sovereignty or integrity in interviews with Indian media.
He further noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also never supported India, even during critical times, such as after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
Khawaja Asif referenced the May 9 incident, asserting that neither PPP nor PML-N has ever undertaken actions that challenge state authority. He emphasized that PTI’s recent behavior is unprecedented in its opposition to government policies.
He also criticized the PTI leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying even the provincial Chief Minister has failed to actively fight terrorism, while party workers openly make statements against government policies.
Khawaja Asif’s remarks underline growing concerns about PTI’s recent political strategies and their potential impact on national security. He stressed the importance of upholding state authority while engaging in political debate.
