Khaled Anam Laments Moral Decline, Says ‘Money is Everyone’s Belief’

Veteran actor and singer Khaled Anam has sparked widespread discussion by linking corruption in Pakistan to the symbolic use of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s image. He argued that the larger Jinnah’s portrait displayed in offices, the higher the level of bribery observed there.

Speaking on a podcast, Anam emphasized that Pakistan is in dire need of a moral revival. He compared moral strength to a vaccination, explaining that just as children are immunized against diseases, society must build immunity against corruption and ethical collapse.

He lamented the absence of accountability in the country, noting that criminals are rarely punished in a way that sets a strong precedent. “We all respect Quaid-e-Azam (money) more than the law,” he remarked, drawing attention to how Jinnah’s image on currency notes has become a symbol of misplaced priorities.

Recalling a book by Jinnah’s close friend Kausji, Anam quoted that if Jinnah had known the character of Pakistanis, he might not have created Pakistan. He clarified these were not his words but a reflection of the disconnect between Jinnah’s vision and the present state of society.

He further noted how even in Jinnah’s lifetime, respect was lacking, citing the neglect of his ambulance—a tragedy still mirrored today in the poor state of ambulances across Pakistan.
